Williams wins the US Open 1999 as a 17-year-old teenager
Williams made her professional debut aged 14. She won her first singles title in France against Amélie Mauresmo in 1999. At the age of 17, Williams defeated Martin Hingis in the 1999 US Open final. That was her maiden Grand Slam title. In 2001, Serena was up against her elder sister Venus at the US Open final. Over 23 million viewers watched the tie.
2002 was a grand year for Serena
Serena has seven Wimbledon honors and the memory of the first one will always be special. The victory came in 2002 against Venus, who was defeated in straight sets at the All England Tennis Club.
