Global T20 Canada: Moody, Waqar to coach T20 teams
The Global T20 Canada League is all set to start at the end of this month and the tournament organisers have lined up some big names to coach the franchises. Out of the five coaches selected, the likes of Tom Moody, Waqar Younis and Phil Simmons are some big names. The T20 League is the first-of-its-kind for the North American country.
Coaches and their respective teams
Simmons will be coaching Toronto Nationals as Moody and Waqar will be in charge of Montreal Tigers and Winnipeg Hawks respectively. Meanwhile, the other two coaches Mohammad Akram and Donovan Miller will guide Edmonton Royals and Vancouver Knights. The final team will be a representative side from West Indies. The league will commence from June 28 and end on July 15.
All you need to know about Canada T20 League
The tournament will consist of six teams. Five teams will represent Canadian cities and one will be from West Indies that will feature players from the Caribbean. This comes after the league tied up with Cricket West Indies to promote the sport. The five Canadian outfits are Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks.
Who are the marquee players?
Several global T20 superstars have been given the status of marquee players. We will see the participation from Chris Lynn, Shahid Afridi, Sunil Narine, Lasith Malinga, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Chris Gayle, David Miller, Steve Smith and Dwayne Bravo.
Player draft to take place on June 3
The tournament will see a draft take place later on Sunday. There is said to be four roster spots set aside for Canadian players that will consist of one U-23 national. 22 matches will be played in the tournament with the final to be held on July 15. Maple Leaf Cricket Club is set to host all the matches.
Canada is 1st associate nation to launch global T20 league
This is the first instance where an associate nation of the ICC is launching a global T20 league. This, in turn, will foster growth of the game and also develop players. The league is surely going to draw a lot of Canadian spectators.
