Unbreakable records held by 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is one of the most gifted batsmen of this generation. He might not have found a permanent place in India's Test squad, but he is a vital cog in ODIs and T20Is. Sharma has achieved several 'unimaginable' feats. Yesterday, he became the first player to hit a century in seven consecutive ODI series. Here we look at records held by Rohit.
Fastest T20I century
Rohit Sharma is the joint record holder of the fastest T20I century along with David Miller of South Africa. Sharma achieved it in a match against Sri Lanka, in 2017, at Indore where he took 23 balls to reach his fifty and another 12 more to reach the century. Boundaries were raining as the hitman slammed a total of 12 fours and 10 sixes.
Most international sixes in a calender year
Once Rohit Sharma is in full swing, no bowler in the world is safe from the wrath of the hitman. Sharma ended 2017 with 65 international sixes, creating a new world record. 46 of those came in ODIs, 16 in T20 internationals and the remaining 3 in Tests. The record was previously held by the South African legend AB de Villiers.
Highest runs in an ODI innings by a player
India's fifth 400+ score came in Kolkata on November 13, 2014 against Sri Lanka. In this match, Rohit Sharma scripted history by scoring a staggering 264 runs off 173 balls. The astonishing innings was laced with 33 fours and 9 sixes. However, Sharma missed out on Gavaskar's record of most balls faced, by an Indian, by one delivery. Ironically, Gavaskar had scored 36*.
3 double centuries in ODIs
Rohit Sharma has astounding 3 double tons in ODIs. 2013 saw the powerful hitter scoring a 209-run knock against Australia in Bangalore with 12 fours and 16 sixes. As mentioned above, his 264 against Sri Lanka, in 2014, is the highest ever ODI score by a batsman. In 2017, Lankans, once again, were his victims as he hit them for 208* off 153 balls.
Most 150+ scores in ODIs
In 2017, Rohit Sharma entered an elite list, comprising of David Warner and Sachin Tendulkar, by becoming the man with most scores of 150+ in ODIs. Interestingly, all five of his 150+ innings have come in last five years. Out of these 5 innings, 2 are against Australia and Sri Lanka while, in 2015, he had scored a 150-run knock against South Africa.
Centuries in seven consecutive ODI series
Rohit Sharma has surpassed his compatriot and captain Virat Kohli by becoming the first cricketer to score centuries in 7 consecutive ODI series. The centuries have come against Bangladesh, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and England.
