#IndiaInAustralia: Murali Vijay says he is ready for first Test
Indian cricket team opener, Murali Vijay, finally found some respite after scoring a century in the recently concluded tour match against Cricket Australia XI. The veteran batsman scored an impressive 132-ball 129 in the second innings of the match, which helped India secure a draw. With Prithvi Shaw's ankle injury forcing him out of the first Test, all eyes will now be on Vijay.
Vijay has endured a difficult 2018
Vijay has endured a difficult year, especially overseas. He was dismal against South Africa and then continued his poor performance against England as well. Vijay scores 102 runs against South Africa across six innings. India prevailed with him against England, but all he could manage was scores of 20, 6, 0 and 0. The senior player was axed post the second Test.
Reasons why Vijay was recalled to the Test squad
Vijay missed the remainder of the series against England as India lost 1-4. He wasn't a part of the squad which beat West Indies 2-0 at home. But the selectors got him back probably for two reasons. Firstly, he delivered some good-looking knocks in County Cricket. Further, the selectors felt his experience of playing in Australia will aid the side.
Big opportunity for Vijay to shine
Vijay was expected to sit out of the first Test against Australia, but now the injury to the in-form Shaw gives him the platform to shine. It is a big opportunity for Vijay as he is expected to get the desired starts for India. With KL Rahul going through a rough patch, Vijay could cement a place alongside Shaw for the remaining Tests.
Vijay eager to contribute for his team
Vijay says that he is eager to go out and contribute. "Basically, I am ready. I just want to go out there, contribute and give a good start for my team." The senior pro has been focusing on his fitness. "I've been working hard on my game and fitness, and I am looking forward to contributing in this series. Hopefully, I can do that."
Vijay was a hit in the 2014-15 tour of Australia
India and Australia are up for a four-match series starting December 6. The first Test match is scheduled to be held in Adelaide. Vijay will be keen to start well, which can eventually help him pave a way to seal his place. He had scored 482 runs in the 2014-15 tour of Australia. Fans will hope he replicates his performance, this time as well.
