Records MS Dhoni could script in IPL 2019
When it comes to the Indian Premier League, nobody knows better than MS Dhoni on how to get the job done. From being one of the best finishers to helping Chennai Super Kings win three titles, Dhoni has been the most successful player in IPL. CSK go into IPL 12 as favorites and here are records which Dhoni could script in 2019.
Dhoni was superb for IPL 11 winners CSK
CSK beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to win the title. It was a massive feat for a side that returned to the tourney after a two-year suspension. Dhoni was in the thick of things and had a defining campaign, where he scored 455 runs.
Dhoni could seal an aggregate of 100 wins
Dhoni has captained the most number of matches in IPL (159). Across 11 editions, Dhoni has captained CSK in nine seasons and also managed Rising Pune Supergiant for one term in 2016. Dhoni has won a total of 94 matches out of the total of 159. Dhoni could reach 100 wins as skipper. He needs just six victories to achieve this feat.
Dhoni is 14 maximums away from 200 IPL sixes
West Indian swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle is the only player to hit 200-plus sixes in the IPL (292). MSD is third in the list with 186 sixes to his name. Dhoni needs 14 maximums to reach the tally of 200. He could become the first Indian to achieve the feat. He will face competition though from Suresh Raina (185) and Rohit Sharma (184).
IPL: Dhoni could be in the top five run-scorer list
Dhoni is one of the eight batsmen in IPL who have scored over 4,000 runs. MSD goes into IPL 2019 with 4,016 runs under his belt. He can surpass former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir in IPL career runs (4,217). The veteran will be in the race alongside Robin Uthappa and Shikhar Dhawan to be among the top five run-scorer in IPL.
Dhoni needs to smash 25 fours to reach this landmark
Dhoni has hit a total of 275 fours in the IPL. He is 17th in all-time list. He needs 25 more to notch 300 fours in the tourney. Dhoni could get past legends Brendon McCullum (293) and Sachin Tendulkar (295).
Other records Dhoni could script in IPL 12
If CSK manage to retain the title, then Dhoni could become the first skipper to pocket four trophies. He is currently tied with Rohit Sharma with three titles. Dhoni is second in terms of most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in IPL (116). He is currently eight behind KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik (124). He could go past DK this season if CSK dominate the season.
