Jose Mourinho is widely considered as one of the most tactically astute managers in the world. It is his success around the world that has earned him such high praise. A productive transfer window
Since the arrival of Mourinho, Manchester United have enjoyed very productive transfer windows. The arrival of Victor Lindelof strengthens United's defence. Although the last season's star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not been offered a contract extension yet, United have found an able replacement in Romelu Lukaku. However, the most important signing of the window was perhaps Nemanja Matic. United now look more like a Mourinho-team.
United are a well-balanced team
With the new signings, Mourinho has increased United's squad depth by heaps. Last season, injuries to several key players at crucial junctures had hindered United's hopes of winning the league. Mourinho identified the problem and has taken proper measures. Now, United have at least two quality players for every position in their ranks.
Time for the prodigal son to shine?
Paul Pogba's return to United got hyped due to his whopping transfer fee. An average performance in the first season, though, marred some of the hype made by the world record transfer. With the burden of being the costliest player now on Neymar, Pogba can finally breathe easy. Moreover, the presence of Matic in the team will give him more freedom on the pitch.
United's statement-making start to the season
After a fruitful pre-season, United hosted West Ham in their first home match of the season. By halftime, they were leading 1-0, thanks to a goal by Lukaku. At the end of 90 minutes, United had cruised to a 4-0 victory. It was not only the number of goals they scored but also the manner in which United played that has excited the fans.
The winning mentality
Historically, United's players are used to winning. They are known to eke out victories in the final moments, a phenomenon that came to be known as the Fergie time. However, since Alex Ferguson's retirement, something had been missing. Under Mourinho, United now look more like their former self. That winning mentality is back at Old Trafford, you can ask any of the fans.
