Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer will be hoping to make the opportunities count in the remaining two ODIs against West Indies in order to showcase his talent. India need an assured name in the middle order and Iyer knows it's a chance he cannot waste. India face WI tonight in the second ODI, before locking horns on Wednesday for the decider. Here's more.
Iyer hasn't got a chance yet in the tour
Iyer sat on the bench in the entire T20I series. He was also robbed of an opportunity to showcase his abilities in the first ODI on Thursday as rain affected the game after just 13 overs of play. The rain has also affected practice sessions ahead of the second ODI too in Trinidad. He is, therefore, hoping for some mercy from the rain gods.
Iyer on making the most out of opportunities
"It's really important for me, coming into the side after a year again to cement my position. You will be needing opportunities, and I feel that I will be getting the same this time. I will be making the best use of it," said Iyer.
Iyer on rain and his momentum
Iyer played recently for India A against WI A. He is eager to carry forward that momentum and is hopeful that rain stays away. "Hopefully, this too doesn't rain off. We are hardly getting any net practice and matches to play right now. I am eager to go out there and carry forward the momentum which I got from my India A matches."
Where will Iyer bat for India in ODIs?
It remains to be seen in which position Iyer is sent out to bat. KL Rahul is likely to come out at number four at the moment. It's a position that has bothered India for a few years now after all the chopping and changes. It was evident in the 2019 World Cup as well. Iyer could make an entry at number five.
Iyer on the number four spot in India's middle order
"It's totally the management's decision where they want to play me. It's (No 4) definitely a vacant spot and they are trying to give chances to youngsters to play in that position. Currently, no one is settled in that position," claimed the youngster.
