Green highlights how Virat Kohli changed gears during IPL 2024
Virat Kohli, the star player of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), broke a flurry of records with his blade in the 2024 Indian Premier League season. Kohli bagged the Orange Cap, with RCB reaching the playoffs despite a slow start. This turnaround was largely due to Kohli's outstanding performance, marking it as his second-best IPL season ever. Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who was part of the RCB squad, recently lauded Kohli's propensity to change gears during the tournament.
Green praises Kohli's adaptability and dedication
Green, who joined RCB in 2024, praised Kohli for his adaptability and dedication to improve. He noted that despite a slow start with a lower strike-rate than expected, Kohli was eager to adjust his approach. "And then he was so happy to change it up and be the man to take the bowlers on from ball one," Green said during a podcast on the LiSTNR Sport YouTube Channel.
Green admires Kohli's commitment to learning
Green further admired Kohli's ongoing commitment to learning and evolving his game. He described watching Kohli as both inspiring and challenging, due to his near-perfect execution on the field. "What was very impressive is how he is still trying to learn," Green added. This sentiment underscores Kohli's dedication to continuous improvement, even at this advanced stage of his career.
Kohli's impressive run silenced critics
RCB batter Kohli bagged the IPL 2024 Orange Cap, fittingly shutting his critics. Kohli scored a whopping 741 runs in 15 matches at 61.75. His strike-rate was 154.69. This was his best campaign since IPL 2016 (973 runs). Kohli also hit 38 sixes, the joint-most by him in an IPL season (also in 2016). He also became the first batter with 8,000 runs (8,004) in the cash-rich league.
Green's own performance in IPL 2024
On the other hand, Green, in his debut season with RCB, racked up 255 runs from 13 matches at a strike-rate of 143.26. Green, who bowls medium-pace, also took 10 wickets for the Royal Challengers. His performance contributed to RCB's successful campaign in the IPL season, alongside Kohli's exceptional display of skill and adaptability on the field.
