'Amazing rivalry' - Cameron Green ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Australia's star all-rounder Cameron Green has shared his views on the Indian team, ahead of their highly awaited Test tour of Australia. The upcoming five-Test series will see Rohit Sharma's men aiming for an unprecedented hat-trick of Test series victories on Australian soil. This ambition was first ignited in 2018-19 when India, under Virat Kohli's leadership, became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia.
India's historic victories and Australia's skepticism
India's historic victory in the 2018-19 series was followed by an even more remarkable win two years later. Despite being significantly impacted by injuries and absences, the Indian team managed to secure a 2-1 series triumph. This time around, Rohit will lead the Indian contingent in Australia amid doubts raised by Australian cricket legends like Ricky Ponting about India's ability to replicate their past successes.
Green acknowledges fierce competition with India
Green has also shared his thoughts on the upcoming series. He acknowledged the intense rivalry between the two teams during a conversation with Star Sports. "Yeah, I think it's always an amazing rivalry and I think lots of things come out of the tournament every single time we go versus each other," Green said. He further emphasized that every point is crucial for the World Test Championship (WTC).
Another WTC final loading between India, Australia?
Green also suggested that the upcoming series could serve as a rehearsal for a potential WTC final. "If it is a bit of a preview for a World Test Championship final again, I think yeah, we've been trying to get as much information out of India and see how we can win it again," he stated. Currently, India leads the WTC table with Australia in second place. Notably, Australia beat India in the 2023 WTC final.
