PV Sindhu storms into world semis
Olympic silver-medallist PV Sindhu dished out a superb performance to storm into the semi-finals and assure herself of a World Championships medal on Friday. She completely outplayed China's big hope Sun Yu 21-14, 21-9 in an encounter that lasted only 39 minutes. This would be her third World Championships medal. Previously, she had won bronze at the 2013, 2014 editions.
Sindhu ecstatic after her win
"I am extremely happy with this victory. More happy because it's my mom's birthday today. "I didn't take the match easy. Sun Yu is a very good player and I was ready for a tough match. I was well prepared. "I went on court knowing well that I needed to give my best and play my game," Sindhu told TOI after her victory.
Saina Nehwal too joins Sindhu in the semis
It was double delight for India as Saina Nehwal also made it into the semi-finals. The World No.16 scripted a hard-fought 21-19, 19-21, 21-15 win over Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour. Saina, who had won silver at the 2015 World Championships, will now face Japan's Nozumi Okuhura in the semis. Sindhu will face Yufei Chen of China in her semi-final match.
