England vs India, 3rd Test: Stuart Broad fined by ICC

    What's the story

England pace bowler, Stuart Broad, has been fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

The senior pacer was fined 15 per cent of his match fee, besides being given one demerit point.

The incident occurred on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match between England and India at Nottingham.

Broad gave a send-off to Rishabh Pant and was involved in a verbal exchange.

    Information

    Why was Broad fined?

Broad breached Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."

    Incident

Broad went up to Pant and spoke aggressively

This was Broad's first offense since the revised code was introduced by the ICC in September 2016.

The incident took place during the 92nd over of India's first innings.

Broad had dismissed Pant and then walked towards him and spoke in an aggressive manner.

This could have provoked the batsman to retaliate.

    Information

    Broad accepts the charge

Broad has accepted the sanctions imposed on him by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. The charges were levelled by the on-field match officials Marais Erasmus and Chris Gaffaney.

    Report

Where do England stand and how has Broad fared?

Chasing 521 runs, England finished at 311/9 at stumps on Day 4.

India are one wicket away from registering a win.

England lead the 5-match series 2-0.

Broad, who failed to pick up a wicket in the second innings, had taken 3/72 in the first.

He took the wickets of Pant, Ashwin and Rahane.

He hit 20 runs in England's 2nd innings.
