Brijesh Patel: News
The glamor boy of Indian cricket during the 1970s, Brijesh Patel, was a starlet in the domestic circuit for Karnataka. His performances in domestic cricket earned him a place in the Indian team touring England in 1974. However, the flamboyant style of the right-handed batsman made him vulnerable on helpful tracks, especially against pace and swing. Although his international cricket didn't flourish as much as his first-class career, he did play handy innings in Tests for India. A natural fit for the shorter format of the game, he played his last Test in 1977 and ODI in 1979. A useful bowler as well, Patel's international career dwarfs in comparison to his domestic career. He scored over 11,000 runs and 37 centuries in first-class cricket and held the record for the most runs and centuries in the Ranji trophy for a while. After his cricketing career, he became a cricket administrator. His positions of responsibility held by him include the Director of the National Cricket Academy and Chairman of the National Selection Committee, among others.
