Boucher disappointed with South Africa's performance against England and Australia
South Africa Team Director Mark Boucher remains optimistic about rebuilding a strong Proteas side despite a tough summer. The Proteas had a disappointing stint against England, before losing the T20Is against Australia. However, they fought back to win the ODI series against Aaron Finch's men. Boucher feels the overall show was disappointing. Here's more on the same.
How did the Proteas perform of late?
South Africa were beaten comprehensively by England 3-1 in the Test series at home. SA were held in a rain-hit ODI series (1-1). They succumbed in a closely fought T20I series by a 2-1 margin next. Against the Aussies, the side lost the T20I series by a 2-1 margin. That was followed by a 3-0 ODI series win.
Boucher reflects on the team's performances
"If I look back over the summer and reflect on the team's performances and progress, especially against England and Australia, I think it was quite disappointing to be honest," Boucher told Cricket South Africa. Boucher feels the performance wasn't as good as expected especially against England, however, as a new coaching staff they got some answers.
Boucher impressed with the light at the end of tunnel
Boucher was happy with the way the summer ended, however, he feels Test cricket needs improvement. "The nice thing for me about the whole summer was the light at the end of tunnel, especially in our short formats. I think we have a lot of work to do with our Test cricket still, there's probably a lot of rebuilding in that respect."
'Against England, we didn't perform like we wanted to perform'
"Especially against England, we didn't perform like we wanted to perform. In saying that I think we, as a new coaching staff, asked some questions and I think we got some answers. Some were good and some were bad," said Boucher.
