#GamingBytes: Black Ops 4 suffers CoD's lowest physical sales
Black Ops 4 was highly anticipated by players before its release, as the latest addition to the Call of Duty franchise was bringing a Battle Royale mode, Blackout, for the first time. However, publisher Activision's reports suggest that physical copy's sales have been the lowest, the franchise has seen in a decade. On the other hand, digital sales have improved. Read about it here.
The numbers game for Call of Duty
Call of Duty's downward trend of boxed sales started after its peak performance with Modern Warfare 3 in 2011. Notably, Call of Duty: WWII was an exception. Coming to Black Ops 4, the physical sales were 50 percent lower than WWII and 59 percent lower than Black Ops 3. Compared to its bestseller, Modern Warfare, the latest game achieved only 10% of Warfare's sales.
No cause for worries in the digital sector
Despite declining physical sales, Black Ops 4 enjoyed immense success in digital sales. It is Activision's biggest digital release with higher sales than WWII in this regard. It also marked the biggest launch across all of CoD's three formats. On PC, the launch day's sales were double of last year and more people went online to play Black Ops 4 than they did WWII.
No alarms and no surprises please
The physical sales statistics might come as a shock to certain fans, but there is no cause for concern. The gaming industry has changed and most gamers pre-order games online from official websites than visiting game stores for physical copies.
