Ranji Trophy: Gani smashes triple ton on debut; scripts history
22-year-old Bihar cricketer Sakibul Gani on Friday became an overnight sensation among cricket enthusiasts after smashing a triple century on his Ranji Trophy debut. The right-handed batter is the first male cricketer to score a triple ton in his First-Class debut. He recorded the feat on the second day of the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy against Mizoram during a Plate Group match.
Why does this story matter?
Gani on Friday also broke Ajay Rohera's record for the highest individual score on First-Class debut. Rohera had racked up an unbeaten 267 against Hyderabad in Indore during the 2018-19 Ranji season while playing for Madhya Pradesh. Rohera had achieved the feat by breaking the record of his fellow countryman Amol Muzumdar. Muzumdar had managed 260 during the 1993-94 season for Mumbai against Haryana.
