Purple Cap holder Kagiso Rabada ruled out of IPL 2019
Delhi Capitals have suffered a blow during the crucial phase of the Indian Premier League 2019, with Kagiso Rabada being ruled out of the tournament. The northern outfit, which has already qualified for the play-offs, lost their prime bowler Kagiso Rabada due to a back injury. The Proteas speedster had also missed DC's previous encounter against Chennai Super Kings. Here's more on the same.
Rabada set to return back home
DC stated Rabada is set to return home immediately. The current Purple Cap holder, who has been in supreme form this season, was carrying a back niggle over the last couple of days. Rabada has been advised to return back home by Cricket South Africa, as a precautionary measure ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019. Rabada is an integral part of SA's squad.
Ponting wants DC players to step up after this blow
"It's unfortunate that Rabada is having to leave us at this stage of the tournament. But I have full confidence in our team, and I'm sure each and every member of this unit will step up to the occasion," said DC coach Ricky Ponting.
Rabada took 25 scalps as DC look up to Boult
23-year-old Rabada took 25 wickets in the 12 matches this season and is on top of the wicket-taking charts. The right-arm pacer is expected to play a crucial role for South Africa in the upcoming 2019 World Cup starting from May 30 onwards in England and Wales. DC will bring Trent Boult as a direct replacement for the South African.
'It is indeed very hard for me to leave DC'
"It is indeed very hard for me to leave the Delhi Capitals at this stage of the tournament. It's been a tremendous season for me with DC, both on and off the field, and I truly believe that we can win the trophy," said Rabada.
Rabada was rewarded for his quality and consistency
DC will be hoping that Boult steps up in these final round of games to help the team keep up with the solidity shown all season with the ball. Boult was terrific for the side last season with 17 scalps. Meanwhile, Rabada leaves a lasting impression with utmost quality and consistency shown all season. He bowled his heart out for DC and was rewarded.
