Shamar Joseph, Harmanpreet Kaur among nominees for BBL, WBBL drafts
Shamar Joseph and Harmanpreet Kaur have been named in the initial list of players for the Big Bash League (BBL) and Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) drafts, respectively. The first batch of 10 nominees was announced on Monday after nominations got closed. The drafts are scheduled to take place on September 1. New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson is also among those who have nominated for the BBL draft.
England's knight, Ecclestone also nominated for WBBL draft
England captain Heather Knight and left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone have also put their names forward for the WBBL draft. However, due to a tour of South Africa in late November, it is uncertain whether English players will be able to participate in the entire tournament. The nomination list includes players who have not been signed under pre-draft agreements but 14 out of 20 can be retained by their respective teams.
Harmanpreet, Rodrigues, Sharma confirmed for WBBL draft
From India, Harmanpreet Kaur has been confirmed for the WBBL draft and can be retained by Melbourne Renegades. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma have also been included in the draft. Other notable retention options include Jamie Overton (Adelaide Strikers), Alex Hales (Sydney Thunder), James Vince (Sydney Sixers), Alice Capsey (Melbourne Stars) and Shabnim Ismail (Hobart Hurricanes).
BBL draft categories and player availability
Players are categorized into Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze tiers for the BBL draft. Each club is required to select at least two players during this process. Those who have pre-draft agreements are assigned a pick that corresponds to their salary band. The WBBL will run from October 27 to December 1 while the BBL will take place from December 15 to January 27.
