On Saturday, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was ruled out of the ODI series against West Indies after a sports hernia injury resurfaced. He is set to miss India's set of assignments which includes the tour of New Zealand. And now, more details about the nature of injury and how it went undetected, have emerged. Bhuvi underwent three different scans at a private hospital
According to a report in The Times of India, Bhuvneshwar was made to go through three different scans at a private hospital in Bengaluru, while recovering at the NCA. However, the injury went undetected. Bhuvi, who was in severe pain, was declared fit for play. The right-arm pacer featured in all the three games and wasn't at his best. He claimed just two wickets.
Bhuvi in real bad shape at the moment
"It took the physiotherapist of the Indian team no time to come up with the correct diagnosis. He is in such bad shape right now that forget four overs, he can't even bowl one. How could a player who is clearly not in shape to be on the field, and who requires surgery, be rushed into the team?," said sources to TOI.
Bhuvi could make a return during IPL
The report states that the bowler was made to go through different scans at YOS Healthcare, a private sports medicine clinic. "Credit has to go to the team support staff that helped detect this in no time. Bhuvi could play a vital role in India's T20 campaign. Thankfully there is time for him to recover and get some matches during the IPL," sources added.
Bhuvi to miss the tour of New Zealand
Bhuvi is set to undergo a surgery next. "We have a scenario where Bhuvi will miss a crucial series against New Zealand and we all know what he brings to the table in conditions which aid swing and seam. He will have to undergo a surgery and should be back in time for the Indian Premier League," a BCCI functionary told IANS.
Bhuvi likely to follow Pandya and Bumrah's footsteps
Bhuvneshwar has the right to be miffed and the report adds that he will not depend on the NCA. The pacer is believed to have conveyed the same to team management. Meanwhile, according to IANS, it came to the fore that Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah had refused to undergo rehabilitation at the NCA post their respective injuries. Both players had informed the management.
