WI bowlers with six-fers versus SA in home Tests
West Indies seamer Jayden Seales decimated the South African batting line-up with a six-wicket haul in the 2nd Test at Providence Stadium in Guyana He recorded figures worth 3/45 and 6/61 in the game. Meanwhile, Seales became the fourth WI bowler to claim at least six wickets in an innings against SA in home Tests. Here are the other Caribbean bowlers with this feat.
Curtly Ambrose - 6/34 in Bridgetown, 1992
SA needed to chase down 201 to win the 1992 Bridgetown Test against WI. However, a stunning spell from Curtly Ambrose dented their plans. He removed both openers, Andrew Hudson and Mark Rushmere, cheaply. The visitors, however, recovered and were 123/2 at one stage. Ambrose then ran through their lower order as SA were folded for 148. Ambrose finished with 6/34 in 24.4 overs.
Courtney Walsh - 6/61 in Port of Spain, 2001
Ambrose's partner-in-crime Courtney Walsh brought his A-game out in the 2001 Port of Spain match. The third innings saw him dismiss talismans Gary Kirsten and Jacques Kallis in quick successions. He also stopped Herschelle Gibbs (87) from completing his century. Walsh also tormented the tail-enders to finish with 6/61 in 36.4 overs. However, South Africa won by 69 runs at the end.
Jayden Seales - 6/61 in Guyana, 2024
Seales broke a superb opening stand of 79 runs by dismissing Tony de Zorzi (39). From 120/1, SA were reduced to 134/4. Seales got the key wickets of Tristan Stubbs and David Bedingham. On Day 3, the pacer dismissed Kyle Verreynne before sending Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger back. He finished with 6/61 in 18.4 overs. Despite his efforts, SA recorded a 40-run win.
Sulieman Benn - 6/81 in Bridgetown, 2010
The lone spinner on this list is left-armer Sulieman Benn. He troubled the Proteas batters in the second innings of the 2010 Bridgetown Test. Though most WI bowlers had a hard time, Benn was among the wickets as he dismissed four of SA's top-six batters. Benn finished with 6/81 in 46.4 overs though WI suffered a seven-wicket defeat.
