Belgium are the team to beat at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018. Roberto Martinez's Belgium have been terrific as they have won five games in a row. They are looking extremely dangerous given their all-round abilities. The win over Brazil was an announcement to the world that they are in Russia to lift the title. Here we decode Belgium's performance.
Belgium have responded perfectly
The Red Devils have answered their critics with their football. The way, they bullied Brazil, gives us an indication that Roberto Martinez's side is in for something special. It was their fighting spirit which staged a comeback against Japan after being 0-2 down. The confidence, which they derived from the win, helped them to see off Brazil as they continued to play 'quality' football.
Belgium's attack the best among the lot
There are several teams including France- Belgium's next opponent, that can claim that they have a superb attacking unit. But this Belgium squad is more than a sum of its parts. Their attack has come out on top and dominated opponents due to superb link-up play and understanding between players. Their counter attack, for the 2nd goal against Brazil, displayed these attributes.
Martinez has been brilliant tactically
The inclusion of Marouane Fellaini allowed Kevin De Bruyne to be a part of three-man attack against Brazil. And it was a masterstroke by Martinez. Not only did De Bruyne score a cracker, but Fellaini was instrumental through out and thwarted the advancements. Even the changes against Japan did wonders in the second half. This is why, Belgium could shine against France as well.
Defensively Belgium are connecting
Thibaut Courtois played one of his best games for Belgium. The Chelsea keeper will be a vital cog against France as well. Belgium will feel that their defense can stop a French attack which boasts of some big names. The shift, these players put in against Brazil, was mind blowing. From interceptions, blocks and tackles, the defense stood tall. They look ready for France.
Game against France pivotal
A win against France puts Belgium on the driver's seat. They will go into the finale as favorites. The test will be against Frenchmen, who have played well till now. But going by the standards Belgium have set, the latter might just destroy France.
