Beckham's MLS stadium plans in Miami in dire straits
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid mid-fielder, David Beckham is facing legal issues regarding his plans of building a stadium for his Major League Soccer franchise, Inter Miami. The franchise was sanctioned in January and David wants to build the stadium with a seating capacity of 25,000. However, locals are opposed to the idea and multi-millionaire Bruce Matheson even filed a lawsuit. Here's more.
Matheson's comments regarding the plans
Matheson commented that David should have first acquired the land before talking about building a stadium. He also said, "It's a real mess. We don't need a mega-mall in the middle of the city of Miami's only golf course". He was also critical of Beckham's attempt of bringing soccer (football) to Miami. The opposition needs two 'no' votes for the plan to fall through.
The preferred plot is a toxic landfill
The Miami New Times had, earlier, reported that the plot where the stadium has been planned is a toxic landfill, which is full of contaminated waste. The cost of cleaning up that area would be huge.
Numerous new clubs are joining MLS
Inter Miami are set to enter the league by 2020, and they are among several other football clubs to enter the Major League Soccer. They will be following the footsteps of Atlanta United, Minnesota Unite, and LA FC in this regard. This huge expansion of football in the USA might produce exciting talents for the future and bring up America as a footballing nation.
