SC seeks response from BCCI on treasurer's threat to CFO
Supreme Court has asked the BCCI and its treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry to respond to allegations of threat from the latter to board's CFO Santosh Rangnekar. While Chaudhry was given two weeks' time to respond to the charges against him, advocate on his behalf, denied the allegations calling them "false, frivolous, and baseless," and hinted at legal action by his client.
What did the CFO allege Chaudhry of?
CFO Santosh Rangnekar made a written complaint accusing treasurer Chaudhry of threatening him on three separate instances this year- first in January, and twice in October. One of the threats, allegedly made, includes Chaudhry intimidating Rangnekar saying, "If you were in Haryana, you'd be evaporated by now" and another where he said, "I will finish you. One more mistake, and you are over."
Context of the threats
Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry had allegedly said that an FIR will be filed against the BCCI CEO and CFO (Rangnekar), for misappropriation of funds as they used Union Bank of India's account to run BCCI operations between 2nd to 20th January 2017. While the FIR will turn out fake in few years, their (CEO & CFO) life will be finished by then, Chaudhry said.
Fallout between treasurer and CFO the cause of allegation
Chaudhry's lawyer said that the fallout, between his client and CFO over financial issues, is cause of the allegations made against Chaudhry. He claims that CFO's actions were against BCCI regulations/mandate of Lodha committee.
