Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul suspended over sexist remarks row
Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been suspended pending an inquiry. The two players will miss the first ODI against Australia on Saturday. The CoA chief Vinod Rai, who had recommended a two-match ban for their misogynistic remarks on the popular chat show Koffee With Karan, confirmed the suspension on Friday. Here is all that you need to know.
BCCI's six-member council to probe case
BCCI has set up a six-member panel to review the case. On Thursday, the CoA called for a two-match ban on both. But later on reports claimed that the extent of penalty for both the players will not be the same. However, that's changed now.
'They have understood the magnitude of what's happened'
Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli felt that the two players have understood the magnitude of what's happened. "From the Indian cricket team point of view, any inappropriate comments that are made in that scenario are something that we definitely don't support and the two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what's happened," Kohli said.
We do not support views like that: Kohli
"We, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated. I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don't align with those views and those are purely individual views," Kohli added.
What had Pandya stated on the chat show?
Pandya, in his flashy self, sat on the couch and his words were mindless for the most part of the episode. He boasted how his parents were 'cool' and revealed he told them after he lost virginity. About women, Pandya didn't have any good things to say. He said he liked to see them 'move' and credited his love for 'black culture' for this.
1st ODI: India stay away from announcing 12-man squad
The two players were part of the training session ahead of the first ODI against Australia starting on Saturday. India generally announce a 12-man squad ahead of a match, but they didn't do the same today. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to feature tomorrow.
