Harry Brook gets 2-year IPL ban following withdrawal: Report
What's the story
England cricketer Harry Brook has been reportedly slapped with a two-year ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he withdrew from the 2025 season.
The decision comes in line with new rules introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to the rules, any player who registers for an auction and withdraws after being picked is banned for two seasons from the tournament and player auction.
Ban details
Brook's withdrawal prompts 2-year ban
Brook was picked by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction for ₹6.25 crore, after having been acquired by the same team for ₹4 crore at the 2024 auction.
However, he announced his unavailability for the upcoming season earlier this week due to commitments to the England cricket team.
Last March, he pulled out of the 2024 IPL to be with his family after the death of his grandmother.
Communication
BCCI informs ECB and Brook about the ban
The BCCI has already informed both England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Brook about his two-year ban.
A BCCI insider confirmed this to Sportstar, saying "Since he pulled out after being picked by a team, he will not be eligible to play next season, even if he is available."
The source stressed that these rules are non-negotiable.
Commitment
Brook prioritizes national duty over IPL commitments
In his announcement about pulling out of the IPL, Brook apologized to the Delhi Capitals but stressed that his commitment to playing for his country comes first.
He said, "It is a really important time for England cricket... I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series."
The decision comes after he had earlier pulled out of the IPL 2024 season for personal reasons.
