BCCI proposes Day-Night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata, response awaited
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed a Day-Night Test against Bangladesh during the upcoming tour starting November 3. As the response is awaited from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), it is being speculated that the second Test, to be played at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, is likely to host this match. BCB to take consent of players and management before confirmation
Speaking on the same, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury has said that they would be taking the consent of the players and the management before taking the final call. "It is totally a technical matter [playing Day-Night Test from skill perspective] and we have to consider that there is preparation required to play a Test with a pink ball," he said, as reported by Cricbuzz.
We will take a decision in this regard: BCB chairman
"We received the letter two or three days (back) and we will take a decision in this regard but we have not discussed it. We will let them know about our decision within one or two days," said BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan.
Ganguly wants India to play day-night Test against Bangladesh
As reported earlier, the new BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is keen on India playing their maiden Day-Night Test against Bangladesh during their upcoming two-Test series. It seems that the Indian management is finally convinced of playing the pink-ball cricket. However, it would be interesting to see BCB's response on the same, as without the consent of the visiting team, the hosts cannot confirm it.
Ganguly has always backed Day-Night Tests
Meanwhile, Ganguly has, over the years, expressed his backing for the Day-Night Tests, as he believes it the way forward for the format. "They [India] are a good side, they will win Day-Night Test matches also. There is no difference in Day-Night Test matches and day Tests. It's just a different ball. They are such class players, they can win," he had said.
Ganguly believes Day-Night Test is answer to everything
Following the third Test against South Africa last week, Kohli had said that India should limit their Test centers to five for better viewership. However, the other association members objected to it, citing that doing so would limit the expansion of the sport in the country. On the other hand, Ganguly said that the introduction of Day-Night Tests would solve several issues.
Eden Gardens could add another historic feather to its cap
The iconic Eden Gardens has witnessed history on a number of occasions, having hosted the 1987 ICC World Cup final and the 2016 ICC World T20 final, along with a couple of IPL finals. Consequently, it could also add another feather to its cap, as it would become the first venue in India to host a Day-Night Test.
