Ratnakar Shetty to stay BCCI General Manager
The BCCI has extended the services of cricket administrator Ratnakar Shetty, as the Board's general manager for game development until the 31st of March. BCCI acting secretary, Amitabh Choudhary, made the announcement at the press conference called to announce the ODI squad for South Africa on Saturday. Shetty's earlier contract was due to expire on December 31st.
Chemistry professor who turned cricket administrator
Questions have been raised over the extension of Shetty's contract. His contract has been extended for the second time, despite the Supreme Court appointed CoA setting the retirement age for BCCI officials at 60. Shetty, who was a former chemistry professor at Mumbai's Wilson College, is over 65 years. On September 27th, Ratnakar Shetty was given three month extension till December 31st.
Saba Karim appointed GM
Former India wicket-keeper Saba Karim was also appointed as the general manager for cricket operations following the demise of MV Sridhar. "As far as the questions is concerned of the GM, several applications had come, in this process CoA has only taken the decision and the final selection of Saba Karim is being done by CoA." Choudhary concluded.
