BCCI to Cricket Australia: Remove beef from Indian team's menu
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to reports, has requested Cricket Australia (CA) to exclude beef from the menu for the Indian cricket team when it travels to Australia later this month on a two-month long tour. India will travel to Australia to play three T20s, four Test matches, and three ODIs from November 21 to January 18. Here's more.
The request was put in by a BCCI advance party
The request to Cricket Australia was put forward by a team from BCCI, which visited Australia two weeks ago to inspect venues for the upcoming tour. During their inspection tour, the two-man team from BCCI requested Cricket Australia to include a clause in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BCCI and CA to remove beef from the Indian team's menu.
An Indian restaurant will serve curry to the team
"Players often complain about the blandness of food served in Australia. There are a few vegetarians in the team who really struggle at the grounds. The inspection team has also roped in an Indian restaurant in Australia to supply curries to the boys," a source told the Mumbai Mirror.
But, why did BCCI put this request?
The decision was probably taken after BCCI faced backlash recently. During India's recent tour of England, which ended in August, the BCCI had tweeted a photo of the lunch menu at Lord's. The photo, which showed Braised Beef Pasta as one of the lunch options, was widely criticized by Indian cricket fans, who took offense at beef being an option for the Indian team.
