BCCI announces revised schedule for Bangladesh, England home series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a new schedule for India's home series against Bangladesh and England, featuring significant changes to match venues. The first T20I against Bangladesh, initially slated for October 6, 2024, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, will now take place in Gwalior due to ongoing renovations at the HPCA stadium.
Gwalior to host first T20I
In a media release, the BCCI explained the venue change, stating, "The first T20I between India and Bangladesh, initially set to be held in Dharamsala on October 6, 2024, will now take place in Gwalior owing to upgrades and renovation work being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms." This shift marks a significant change in the cricketing calendar.
Gwalior's new stadium to host inaugural international fixture
The relocated match will be the first international fixture at Gwalior's new Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium. This event also marks the first international cricket match in Gwalior since 2010, when Sachin Tendulkar made history by becoming the first male cricketer to score a double century in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
BCCI swaps venues for England T20Is
In addition to the Gwalior change, the BCCI has also altered the venues for the first and second T20Is against England, scheduled for January 2025. The board stated, "Chennai, originally scheduled to host the first T20I, will now host the second, while Kolkata will host the opening T20I instead of the second." This swap was prompted by a request from Kolkata Police due to their Republic Day commitments.
Match dates remain unchanged
Despite the venue changes, the dates for the first T20I (January 22, 2025) and the second T20I (January 25, 2025) remain unchanged. The BCCI's revised schedule reflects its commitment to accommodating logistical requirements and ensuring a smooth experience for fans and players alike. This adjustment is part of BCCI's ongoing efforts to manage India's busy cricketing calendar.
