Mumbai's rising off-spinner Himanshu Singh invited to Team India camp
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited Mumbai's promising off-spinner, Himanshu Singh, to join the Indian camp in Chennai ahead of the Bangladesh Test series. Notably, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the series opener, starting September 19. Meanwhile, the camp is scheduled to run between September 13 and 18. It will include a selection of players who have demonstrated exceptional performance and potential. Notably, Singh is yet to feature for Mumbai's senior side.
Singh's impressive performance secures him a spot
Singh, a 21-year-old off-spinner, recently showcased his skills by taking seven wickets for just 74 runs in a match against Andhra at the Alur-1 Ground. This was part of the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah memorial tournament. Despite not yet playing for the Mumbai senior team, Singh's impressive performance has earned him recognition and an invitation to join Team India's training camp.
Cricket journey and future prospects
Singh has represented Mumbai at the Under-16 and Under-23 levels. He took part in the BCCI's 'emerging players' camp in Anantapur and Bengaluru a few years ago. His tall stature (6'4") and bowling action are believed to have attracted the Indian cricket board. Notably, all players part of will report to Chennai on September 12, with those participating in the Duleep Trophy set to depart after their first match.
Team India packed with spinners for Bangladesh series
As of now, senior spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav are the front-runners for the impending Bangladesh Test series. Singh adds to the growing list of future spin prospects for Team India.
