Bangladesh postpone Test series against Australia: Details here
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday said it was postponing a two-match Test series against Australia scheduled for June due to the global coronavirus pandemic. However, no date is set for the Test series which is part of the ICC World Test Championship. All sporting activities around the world have been postponed or canceled. Here's more.
Australia were due to play Tests in Chittagong and Dhaka
Australia had been due to play the Tests in Chittagong and Dhaka between June 11 and June 23. It would have been the nation's third Test series in Bangladesh and second in three years. The BCB said it would work with Cricket Australia to find a future window for the series.
BCB and Cricket Australia issue statements
"This is understandably disappointing for players and fans of both sides," BCB chief Nizamuddin Chowdhury said in a statement. "The health of our people and communities is the number one priority for both Boards and that is reflected in the action we have taken," said Kevin Roberts of Cricket Australia.
ICC World Test Championship: How do the teams fare?
Bangladesh have featured in three Tests under the ICC World Test Championship. They have lost all three and sit bottom of the nine-team table. Australia have played 10 Tests. They have won seven, lost two and drawn once. The Aussies are placed second and have collected 296 points from three Test series. Earlier, Bangladesh's second Test against Pakistan got postponed.
Several cricket tournaments have been canceled or postponed
Last month, the ODI series between India and South Africa was called-off. Meanwhile, the BCCI also decided to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season till April 15. However, this is now set to be further postponed or canceled entirely. England's tour of Sri Lanka was canceled. Also, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was also called-off during the knockout stage.
