#GamingBytes: Battlefield 5 PC comes with a profanity filter
Battlefield 5's open beta will be live from September 6. Notably, the game developer, DICE, is introducing a profanity filter in it. It stated this an unfortunate but a necessary addition. The filter, however, will only be coming to PC. Gamers, with consoles, will have to report to PlayStation Network or XBox Live if they get exposed to abusive behavior. Read more about this.

Nobody likes a foul mouth in the community
One of the DICE producers, Jaqub Ajmal, replied over Twitter to a player who asked for a way to mute certain players who subject others to racist or abusive comments. The player said even though he enjoyed chatting, but these kind of experiences are a turn-off. There is no clarity if mute feature will be added but a profanity filter is on its way.
Some fans are displeased but developers stand their ground
Naturally, some fans are displeased with the censorship. One even commented that it was sad that adults were unable to handle 'evil' words. Another sarcastically asked if it was PG13. Ajmal stood his ground and replied that it was Battlefield and players should treat each other respectfully. It is sad that the lack of respect in the gaming community necessitates such measures.
Being in character is only permissible in-game
Some players had a genuine question whether the game developers would be clamping down on profanity used in-game. A player tweeted that the word 'ass' would likely be there in the game dialogue, as part of a famous Battlefield phrase 'check your asses'. Ajmal replied quickly that characters in-game might use profanities for authenticity, but chats with real players would not allow abuses.
Battlefield 5 and political correctness
Battlefield 5 has faced flak before for including female and non-white characters. Gamers complained that it did away with historical accuracy for political correctness. However, the developers did not engage in debates and said players could either accept the characters or not buy the game.
When can players get their hands on the game?
Although Battlefield 5's open beta starts on September 6, those who pre-order or subscribe to EA or Origin Access can start playing from September 4. The open beta will run till September 11. It will include the preview of the Conquest mode, Tides of War and Grand Operations. Notably, the release of the game has been delayed to November from mid-October.
