The first six overs in T20 cricket is the most crucial period for both teams. A robust score in these six overs, also known as the powerplay, can propel a team to a good total or vice versa. The PP overs come as a vital scoring period because of the limited field placements. We decode players with the highest powerplay scores, from full-member squads.
Travis Head - 73(22) vs Scotland, Edinburgh 2024
Australian opener Travis Head leads the pack obliterating the Scottish bowling attack in Edinburgh, taking Australia's PP total to 113/1. Head scored 73 off 22 balls in the powerplay, helping Australia record a score of 113/1. Head ended up with a score of 80 runs from 25 balls, striking at 320. He also smashed the joint-fastest T20I fifty for Australia (17 balls).
Paul Stirling - 67(25) vs WI, St George's 2020
Ireland's opener Paul Stirling stands second in this list courtesy of his 67 off 25 balls against West Indies in 2020. Stirling's innings included six fours and a record eight sixes at a strike rate of 202.12. He scored 95 off 47, propelling Ireland to a total of 208/7. Ireland went on to win the match by four runs, thanks to Joshua Little's 3-fer.
Colin Munro - 66(23) vs WI, Mt Maunganui 2018
In what was a rain-spoilt match, New Zealand's Colin Munro smashed 66 runs off 23 balls in the PP overs, at a strike rate of 286.95. His knock included 11 fours and three sixes. Munro had four consecutive boundaries in the sixth over, taking the Black Caps to 86/2 (PP overs). In the nine overs that were played, New Zealand managed to score 102/4.
Quinton de Kock - 64(24) vs West Indies, Centurion 2023
South African opener, wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock scored (64 off 24) in the PP, propelling the Proteas to 102/0. De Kock's inning included nine fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 227.27. He went on to score a brilliant 100 off 44. The wicketkeeper smashed six maximums and five fours in the PP. South Africa scored 259/4, surpassing West Indies' 258 runs.
