West Indies vs South Africa, Tests: Batters with most runs
West Indies will host South Africa in a two-match Test series, starting on August 7. The Proteas unit will head into the series as favorites as they have named a full-strength squad. WI, meanwhile, have multiple areas to focus upon as they suffered a 0-3 whitewash against England last month. Here we decode the batters with the most runs in WI-SA Test matches.
Jacques Kallis - 2,356 runs
Arguably the greatest all-rounder in the game's history, Jacques Kallis is the only batter with over 2,000 runs in this rivalry. As per ESPNcricinfo, he finished his celebrated career with 2,356 across 24 Tests against WI at a brilliant average of 73.62. His tally of eight tons is also the most for a batter in SA-WI Tests. Kallis also smashed 12 fifties against WI.
Brian Lara - 1,715 runs
At number two, we have Brian Lara, who scored a famous 202 in the 2003 Johannesburg Test. Overall, Lara hammered 1,715 runs across 18 games against SA at an average of 49. He owns four tons and nine fifties against them. Notably, the Caribbean legend also owns the highest individual score in the history of the format (400* vs England).
Shivnarine Chanderpaul - 1,710 runs
Shivnarine Chanderpaul, another great left-hander from WI, also makes it to this list. He is marginally behind Lara, having smashed 1,710 across 23 games against the Proteas side at 46.21. The tally includes five tons and eight fifties. One of his tons was also converted into a double-hundred, 203* in Georgetown, 2005.
Graeme Smith - 1,593 runs
Former South African captain Graeme Smith is among the greatest openers to have played Test cricket. He indeed enjoyed operating against WI as the southpaw scored 1,593 runs across 14 games against them at a remarkable average of 69.26. Seven of his 11 50-plus scores against WI were converted into centuries. His highest score against them reads 148.
