Sri Lanka's batting sensation Kamindu Mendis continues to rewrite the record books. On September 27, he became the fastest Sri Lankan to complete 1,000 Test runs. Mendis attained the milestone en route to an unbeaten 182 in SL's first innings in the second Test versus New Zealand in Galle. Here we look at the batters with 1,000-plus runs after 13 Test innings.
Don Bradman - 1,196 runs
As per Cricbuzz, the legendary Don Bradman tops this list as he had 1,196 Test runs by the end of his 13th innings. Like Mendis, Bradman also struck a century in his 13th innings as he also went past 1,000 runs during his knock. Notably, the Australian talisman had clobbered five centuries in these innings. He overall retired with 6,996 Test runs at 99.94.
Everton Weekes - 1,072 runs
West Indies legend Everton Weekes is next on this list as he managed 1,072 runs in his first 13 Test innings. Notably, Weekes happens to be the joint-fastest batter to complete 1,000 Test runs, having taken just 12 innings. Like Bradman, he also had five centuries in his first 13 innings. Weekes finished his career with 4,455 Test runs at 58.61.
Herbert Sutcliffe - 1,037 runs
Weekes shares the top spot with former England opener Herbert Sutcliffe in terms of fastest batters to accomplish 1,000 Test runs. The latter had 1,037 runs by the end of his 13th innings. He had also struck five centuries during this period. Overall, Sutcliffe managed 4,555 runs in his Test career at a phenomenal average of 60.73.
Kamindu Mendis - 1,004 runs
Mendis also took 13 innings to reach the landmark of 1,000 runs. Having featured in 13 innings so far, the star batter now owns 1,004 runs at an average of 91.27. The tally includes five centuries alongside four fifties. Notably, Mendis made an unbeaten 182 from 250 balls in his 13th innings. He slammed 16 fours and four sixes.
