En route, Mendis became the fastest Asian to reach 1,000 Test runs, achieving the milestone in 13 innings. He also equaled Sir Don Bradman in terms of reaching the milestone. Neil Harvey - 6 centuries
Australia's Robert Harvey is the only batter to have smashed six tons in his first 13 innings. Notably, he struck centuries in his 12th and 13th innings as his 14th inning saw him complete 1,000 runs. He is hence the second-fastest Australian to reach this mark. Harvey finished his celebrated Test career with 6,149 runs at 48.41.
Don Bradman - 5 centuries
Like Mendis and Harvey, Bradman also struck a century in his 13th innings as he also went past 1,000 runs during his knock. That was his fifth Test century which makes him a member of this esteemed list. As per Cricbuzz, Bradman had the most Test runs after 13 innings (1,196). He overall retired with 6,996 Test runs at 99.94.
Everton Weekes and Herbert Sutcliffe - 5 centuries
West Indies legend Everton Weekes is next on this list as he managed 1,072 runs in his first 13 Test innings. The tally includes five centuries. England's Herbert Sutcliffe also boasted five Test tons by the end of his 13th innings. Notably, Weekes and Sutcliffe happen to be the joint-fastest batters to complete 1,000 Test runs, having taken 12 innings apiece.
George Headley and Kamindu Mendis - 5 centuries
Mendis and West Indies's George Headley are the others to have smashed five centuries in their first 13 Test innings. The latter overall managed 2,190 runs in his Test career at 60.83. Notably, Mendis made an unbeaten 182 from 250 balls in his 13th innings. The star batter has now raced to 1,004 runs at an average of 91.27.
