Indian pacer Barinder Sran retires from all forms of cricket
Indian left-arm fast bowler Barinder Sran announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 31-year-old cricketer made this announcement on Instagram, expressing gratitude for his journey in the sport. Sran's international career spanned over six ODIs and two T20Is between January and June 2016. However, he has not been considered for selection since then.
Sran's journey from boxing to cricket
As per ESPNcricinfo, Sran, who comes from a farming family, first pursued boxing at Bhiwani Boxing Club in Haryana. His interest in cricket was ignited by a Kings XI Punjab ad seeking young talent for trials. Though he didn't secure an IPL contract right away, Sran's village cricket experience with tennis balls propelled him to the Kings Cup and earned him recognition as one of Punjab's top uncapped cricketers.
Sran's IPL journey and international debut
Sran was eventually signed by Rajasthan Royals in the 2015 IPL auction. A major career highlight was his 2016 selection for India's ODI tour of Australia, following just eight List A matches. He made his ODI debut under MS Dhoni on January 12, taking three wickets for 56 runs in Perth.
Sran's T20I debut and performance
Sran debuted in T20I during Zimbabwe's white-ball tour in June 2016. In his second match in Harare, he was named Player of the Match for taking four wickets for just 10 runs. Over his career, he played 18 First-Class, 31 List A, and 48 T20 matches from 2011 to 2021.
Sran's IPL journey and last competitive match
In the IPL, Sran represented several teams including Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians. He also served as a net bowler for Gujarat Titans. His final competitive match was in February 2021, representing Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh.
Sran's short career for India
The pacer featured in a total of six ODI's for India, picking up seven wickets at an average of 38.42, with his best bowling figures being 3/56. Sran has played only two T20I matches for India, and has six scalps to his name, with an economy rate of 5.12 and one four-wicket haul under his belt.
