La Liga: Barcelona complete midfielder Dani Olmo's registration
Barcelona's recent acquisition, Dani Olmo, has been officially registered to La Liga, confirmed Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano. This means he is set for his debut at Barca in their forthcoming La Liga clashes. The Spanish midfielder was officially unveiled on August 12 but his registration was pending due to the Barcelona's financial difficulties, which have been thwarting the club.
Here's the official confirmation
Why Olmo's debut was delayed
It was earlier reported that Barcelona are grappling with a €100 million deficit from the previous season, which has significantly hampered their ability to register new signings. This financial shortfall has rendered Olmo ineligible for both the matches so far. Despite his official introduction as a Barcelona player, Olmo was absent from the season opener against Valencia and the following fixture against Athletic Club.
Barcelona's measures to address financial difficulties
To mitigate their financial issues, Barcelona have resorted to releasing players and negotiating free transfers. The recent departure of Ilkay Gundogan was expected to alleviate some of the financial pressure, but it has not been enough to pave the way for Olmo's registration.
Barcelona signed Olmo from RB Leipzig
Barcelona completed the signing of Olmo from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig earlier this month. He had a superb campaign with winners Spain at the 2024 European Championship. As per Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona spent €55m guaranteed package plus €7m in add-ons to acquire Olmo. Olmo, who agreed on a six-year deal valid until June 2030, could prove to be a versatile attacker for Barca.
