The Bangladesh cricket team stunned Afghanistan by four wickets in the first ODI at Chattogram on Wednesday. Batting first, Afghanistan managed 215/10 in 49.1 overs. Najibullah Zadran slammed 67. Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets. In response, the hosts were reeling at 46/6 at one stage before Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan stitched a match-winning century-plus stand to get home. How did the first ODI pan out?
Afghanistan lost an early wicket before being reduced to 102/4 after 28 overs. Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi added a 63-run stand to give some stability. Bangladesh hit back as the Afghans folded for a paltry 215 in 49.1 overs. Mustafizur Rahman was the chief architect, claiming three wickets. In response, Bangladesh were 45/6 at one stage before the match-winning century-plus stand.
Zadran slams his 13th ODI fifty
Zadran was Afghanistan's top scorer, piling up 67 from 84 balls. He hit four fours and two sixes. Zadran now has 13 fifties in ODI cricket. He has 1,782 runs at 30.72. This was his maiden fifty versus Bangladesh. He has scored 183 runs at 26.14. Mohammad Nabi (20) has gone past 200 runs versus Bangladesh (201) at 22.33.
Fizz and Shakib register these feats
Mustafizur Rahman was terrific with the ball, claiming figures worth 3/35 in 9.1 overs. Fizz has raced to 130 ODI wickets at 22.57. He is now the fourth-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh, surpassing Rubel Hossain (129). Fizz now has seven wickets versus Afghanistan at 15.85. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan (2/50) has raced to 279 wickets at 29.40. He has raced to 20 wickets versus Afghanistan.
Notable records for Afif and Mehidy
Afif Hossain slammed his maiden ODI fifty for Bangladesh. He hit 93* from 115 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan registered his second ODI fifty. He hit an unbeaten 81 from 120 balls (nine fours). He has also gone past 500 ODI runs. Afif and Mehidy have added the highest ODI partnership for Bangladesh against the Afghans (174*).
Bangladesh extend the H2H record
This was the ninth ODI meeting between the two sides. Bangladesh have claimed their sixth win over Afghanistan. Notably, this was Bangladesh's third straight ODI win over Afghanistan. This was also the first meeting at Chattogram between the two sides.
Highest seventh-wicket partnership for Bangladesh
Afif and Mehidy have now recorded the highest partnership for Bangladesh in ODI cricket for the seventh wicket. This is also the eighth-highest stand in terms of runs for Bangladesh (any wicket) in ODIs.
