Shakib Al Hasan makes bold claim regarding Bangladesh cricketers
Bangladesh's Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan has made a bold claim that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying to suppress the Bangladesh cricketers. Further, it is implementing new rules of its own. The upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League would see the new rules being implemented as the BCB has asked the teams to follow the rules or face consequences.
BCB implementing new rules in BPL
Speaking of the new rules in the BPL, the BCB has said that every team should have at least one leg-spinner in their playing XI. The board had also suspended head coaches of a couple of teams for not sticking with the rule. The move comes after Bangladesh suffered a defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in a Test recently.
Other rules being implemented in the BPL
Besides the rule of the leg-spinner, the BCB has also requested every side to have a fast bowler from overseas, who can bowl at a speed of more than 140 kmph, consistently. Furthermore, the wrist spinners in the side would have to complete their entire quota, during the match. All these rules will have an impact on the league.
Shakib surprised by BCB's new move
Speaking on the new rule, Shakib was surprised with the rule of including a leg-spinners, asides stating that the BCB has done what it feels is right for Bangladesh cricket. "The BPL is an international-standard competitive tournament where you will face scenarios that you are likely to face in international cricket. It is not the place to make a player," he wondered.
Shakib backs BCB to set up proper training facilities
"Only focusing on the national team shouldn't be the main job. Places like Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet should have proper indoor facilities. You cannot bat for more than 15 minutes in the Mirpur indoor facilities, because it gets so hot," urged Shakib.
Shakib wants BCB to improve First-Class match fees
Shakib further asserted that the cricketers are underpaid when it comes to First-Class matches, as the sub-standard amount barely helps in maintaining the minimum living standards for them. "Things are getting costlier. Government officials get increments every year, but we see that it is the same for us every time. It even gets reduced. BPL and DPL are big examples of this," he continued.
Everyone should have equal opportunity: Shakib
Shakib reckons that the cricketers in Bangladesh are being suppressed and everyone should be presented with equal opportunities. "A player should be left to earn what he feels he deserves. If the team doesn't want to take the player at that payment, the player will deal with it. But to stop him from freely naming his price is not right," Shakib concluded.
