Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe in second Test: Here're the records broken
Mehidy Hasan picked 5 wickets in the second innings to hand Bangladesh a victory against Zimbabwe. The Tigers won the second and final Test by 218 runs as they shared the spoils of the series. Zimbabwe might have been able to save the Test with Brendan Taylor scoring a superb 106*, but the hosts rallied to stage a comeback. Here are the records broken.
Bangladesh seal victory after four successive Test losses
The Tigers have been below par in red ball cricket in the last couple of years. After suffering four successive Test losses in five matches in 2018, Bangladesh earned their first victory of the year. But Bangladesh's search for a series victory continues with their last Test series win coming in 2014-15. Since then in 12 series, they have drawn a total of 6.
Bangladesh batsmen breathe a sigh of relief
If one follows the trend of Bangladesh's journey in Tests, it is their batsmen who have disappointed massively. But in this Test, the batsmen played remarkably well. In the previous four Tests and 8 innings they couldn't manage to get past 200-run mark even once. But against Zimbabwe, they scored 522/7d and 224/6 in the two innings.
Mushfiqur Rahim bags a feat of records
Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 219 in the first innings, became the highest individual scorer for Bangladesh in Test cricket. He went past Shakib Al Hasan's 217 against New Zealand. Mushfiqur is just 81 runs away from becoming the highest ever run-scorer in Tests for the Tigers. Mushfiqur also became the first wicket-keeper batsman to score two double tons in Test cricket.
Bangladesh players achieve milestones
The Tigers, who batted for 160 overs for the score of 522/7d, registered their longest innings in a Test match. Mahmudullah scored only his second Test career hundred when he hit 101* in the second innings. Mominul Haque got to his seventh career hundred in 31 Tests. Mehidy picked his 5th five-wicket haul in Tests. He finished with 8 wickets in this Test.
Brendan the lone warrior for Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe batsman Brendan joined an illustrious list of cricketers to hit two centuries in a Test. After hitting 110 runs in the first innings, he hit an unbeaten 106 in the second. But his heroics weren't enough in the end as Zimbabwe folded for 224 in the last innings after managing 304 in the first. Brendan also notched his 5th and 6th career tons.
