BWF World Tour Finals: PV Sindhu reigns supreme
Indian women's badminton ace PV Sindhu sealed her maiden title of 2018 after pocketing the summit clash of the BWF World Tour Finals in Guangzhou on Sunday. Sindhu, who beat former world champion Ratchanok Intanon in straight games to book a place in the finale, went on to claim victory against Nozomi Okuhara. Here's more.
Sindhu becomes first Indian to win maiden #BWFWorldTour title
Sindhu stormed past Okuhara 21-19, 21-17 to win in straight games. With this stupendous victory, Sindhu made history by becoming the first Indian to win the season-ending tournament. The title also marked her first major trophy in 2018. Sindhu was superior on the day and won points at crucial junctures. This was Sindhu's second consecutive summit clash appearance in the year-ending tournament.
Sindhu banks on top form to win title
Sindhu was in top form in this tourney and went into the final high on confidence. Earlier, the badminton ace topped her group with three victories. A win against her nemesis Tai Tzu Ying in three games, proved to be a crucial aspect in boosting her confidence. A semi-final win against Ratchanok was special and now this was just an icing on the cake.
Sindhu manages to break final jinx
Prior to this victory, Sindhu had failed to win a major title this year. She was involved in five finals, but unfortunately lost all of them. She had also finished second at the 2018 Asian Games. Post the Games, her form saw a dip. But now, Sindhu has go on to do something special.
