Axar Patel to lead Gujarat in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has been appointed as the captain of Gujarat for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The announcement was made by the Gujarat Cricket Association on November 21. Patel's presence is expected to bolster the team's performance in the tournament, starting Saturday. The all-rounder recently featured in the four-match T20I series against South Africa.
Patel's recent performance and Gujarat's opening match
Gujarat, who are in Group B, will start their campaign against Baroda in Indore. Patel, a spin all-rounder, fared well in the four-T20I series in South Africa. He impressed by taking three wickets and scoring 35 runs with the bat across three innings. This has raised hopes for his captaincy in the upcoming tournament.
Ravi Bishnoi accompanies Patel
Apart from Patel, the Gujarat team also features another Indian international, Ravi Bishnoi. Bishnoi was a part of Gujarat's Ranji Trophy campaign. Currently, Gujarat is placed third in Elite Group B of the Ranji Trophy with 19 points from five matches.
