Commonwealth Games gold medalist Aware to be honored by SJAM
Commonwealth Games gold medallist grappler Rahul Aware has been chosen for the "Sportsman of the Year" award to be given by the Sports Journalists' Association of Mumbai (SJAM). Aware bagged the gold medal in 57 kg freestyle category during the Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast in Australia, earlier this year, a release issued by the SJAM said today. Sawant, Sidhu to get 'Sportswomen of the Year' award
Ace markswomen Tejaswini Sawant and Heena Sidhu have been chosen for the "Sportswomen of the Year" awards, the SJAM release said. Young cricketer, Prithvi Shaw, has been chosen for the "Cricketer of the Year" award while Kabaddi star Rishank Devadiga will be conferred with the "Sportsman of the Year, Indian Games" award. Sachin Tendulkar's coach Ramakant Achrekar will receive the "Lifetime Achievement" award.
Babu Narayan also to be honored with Lifetime Achievement award
Former Olympians SS Babu Narayan (football/basketball), Mary D'Souza (athletics), and Murlikant Petkar (Paralympics) have also been chosen for the "Lifetime Achievement" awards, the release said. The SJAM will also felicitate sports scribes Dara Pochkhanawalla, Hemendra Vyas, and Shivram Sonawadekar at the awards function to be held in October, the release added. The awards have been sponsored by Star Sports channel.
