#IndiaInAustralia: Three key moments of Day four of third Test
The Indian cricket team is two wickets away from victory in the ongoing third Test match against Australia being held at the MCG. The visitors set a target of 399 for the Aussies, who are 258/8 at stumps on Day four. With the forecast showing rain tomorrow, it remains to be seen how things fold. Here are the key things that defined today's play.
Cummins holds fort for Australia
Pat Cummins has been superb for Australia. He picked his career best figures of 6/27 in India's second innings. He then went on to amass an unbeaten 61 runs to defy India in the final session. For India, Ravindra Jadeja picked three scalps.
Mayank, Pant fight it out in the middle
India were reeling at 54/5 at stumps on Day three and the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant showed character on a difficult pitch. Mayank (42) added 14 more runs to his bag on Saturday. Pant went on to amass a 43-ball 33 to get India to 106/8. A 398-run lead gave the skipper confidence to have a crack at the Aussies.
Aussies show resistance with the bat
Credit to the hosts for the fight and showing character. Usman Khawaja (33), Shaun Marsh (44) and Travis Head (34) impressed with the starts. They consumed 200+ deliveries between them. Skipper Tim Paine (26) also hung in there. Australia's lower order was the key for the them. Cummins in particular fought valiantly. He was well supported by Mitchell Starc (18) and Nathan Lyon (6*).
India fail to cash in with second new ball
The Indian bowlers performed collectively in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja in particular got the ball to talk. But the impetus was somewhat lost in the final moments of the day. India could not cash in with the second new ball.
