Kuldeep Yadav highlights the importance of learning from Ashwin, Jadeja
Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has established himself as India's number one spinner in limited-overs cricket. But, when it comes to Test cricket, the rising star is India's third choice option behind senior players R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep was handed a chance in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia and he grabbed the opportunity. Here is what he had to say.
Kuldeep highlights the importance of seniors Ash and Jaddu
Kuldeep has taken his position as a third spinner in the team positively. He has highlighted the importance of seniors Ash and Jaddu in the squad in the press conference post Day four at the SCG. "When you know you have Ashwin and Jadeja in the squad and you are the third [spinner], there is a lot to get [motivated by] them," he said.
It is important to learn from them, says Kuldeep
"They are the ones who keep pushing me in the nets — 'you have to bowl this way and in certain areas'. It is important to learn from them. They have played enough cricket and I am still learning," said the cricketer.
Kuldeep impresses with figures of 5/99
Kuldeep picked five wickets against the Aussies in their first innings at the SCG. The left-arm spinner grabbed 5/99 from 31.5 overs. He wasn't afraid to mix things up and invited the Aussies to go against him. Kuldeep was rewarded for his show, as he picked up his second five-wicket Test career haul. He has 24 wickets from six Test matches so far.
How is the fourth Test poised at the moment?
Bad light hampered the ongoing Test in Sydney for the second consecutive day. Australia, who resumed the day at 236/6, were bowled out for 300. They were asked to follow-on by Indian captain Virat Kohli. Australia were 6/0 in their second innings, before play was halted. The Test is heading towards a possible draw. India lead the four-match series 2-1.
