#IndiaInAustralia: Virat Kohli could script these captaincy records in Sydney
All eyes will be on the Indian cricket team when they take the field against Australia on Thursday in Sydney. India and Australia will be vying for the fourth and final Test match of the ongoing series. The visitors lead the series 2-1 and go in as favorites. Notably, Indian captain Virat Kohli could break a host of records. Here's a look.
Kohli could surpass Dada and etch his name in record-books
Kohli could become the most successful Indian captain in terms of Test matches won overseas. Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly holds this record with 11 wins outside home. Kohli equalled the legend after India won the third Test at the MCG. If India manage to beat Australia at the SCG, then the 30-year-old Kohli would go past Dada.
Kohli could create history if India remain unbeaten in Sydney
If the visitors win or draw the Sydney Test, then Kohli could become the first Indian skipper to pocket a Test series on Australian soil. This is India's 12th Test series against Australia at their own backyard. Out of 11 attempts earlier, India faced eight series defeats and three ended in draws. Only three captains managed to secure a draw. Kohli could surpass them.
Another stupendous feat awaits Kohli
Kohli could also become the first Indian captain to win three away Test matches in a series outside home on two occasions. In 2017, the Indian cricket team had thrashed Sri Lanka 3-0 away from home.
Kohli can also go past Pataudi
Meanwhile, if India win the Sydney Test, then Kohli could become the second Indian captain to win three matches in a series outside the sub-continent. Till date, Former India skipper Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi is the only one in history to achieve a similar feat. He was the first one to guide India to a 3-1 against New Zealand in 1967-68.
