Women's cricket: Aussie women seal the T20I series in style
Favourites Australia rose to prominence after seeing off English challenge in the final of the T20I tri-series trophy. Meg Lanning (88*) was once again the chief architect of the Australian victory as she put on a splendid show with the bat. Aussies posted 209/4 in 20 overs. In reply, England finished at 152/9. Megan Schutt did the damage with her spell of 3/14.
England did not get the desired momentum
This was England's third successive loss in the tournament. And their form was a telling story in the finale. Nobody besides Natalie Sciver looked threatening in the game. Sciver scored a lone fifty in their 152/9. They lost wickets at heap and never recovered. Earlier, all of the English women were plundered for runs when they bowled in the first innings of the match.
Manning the superstar for Aussies
Manning was in a different dimension in this T20I tri-series and in the most important game, she performed once again. Her 88 off 45 deliveries was the highlight of the match. It included 16 fours and a six. Elise Villani also chipped in with her knock of 51 runs as the duo shared a 139-run match-winning partnership. That, in turn, affected the English morale.
Lanning, Schutt stand-out performers for Aussies
Australia's leading run-scorer in T20Is, Meg Lanning enjoyed a superb campaign. Through out the series, she didn't get dismissed even once. She ended with 175 runs from four matches. Bowler Megan Schutt was awarded the player-of-the-series for picking 9 wickets in the tournament.
