What's the story

Marin Cilic had an easy sailing into his first ever Australian Open final outclassing Kyle Edmund. Caroline Wozniacki, in a nervy encounter, also made it to her first final at the Melbourne Park. The other semi-final of women's singles was a high quality nail biter with Simona Halep sending home the former Australian Open champion, Angelique Kerber. Here's how the matches proceeded.

A third slam final

Marin Cilic ends Kyle Edmund's dream run

World number 6, Marin Cilic ended the dream run of young Briton Kyle Edmund beating him 6-2, 7-6, 6-2, in the Semis. This is a third major final for the 2014 US Open winner, who also made it to the final of 2017 Wimbledon. The Croatian is set to face the winner of Roger Federer vs Hyeon Chung in the final.

Chasing the first slam

Halep outlasts Kerber in an epic semi-final

Simona Halep, in a roller-coaster of a semi-final, defeated Angie Kerber 6-3, 4-6, 9-7. The world number 1 put on a masterful display staving off two match points in a thriller where she hit 50 winners. The Romanian, who has been unsuccessful in claiming a major win in two attempts, will hope to be third-time lucky to win her first Grand Slam title.

Will she or won't she?

Wozniacki in her quest for maiden slam

Caroline Wozniacki advanced into Australian Open final beating Melbourne Park debutant, Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-6. In a quest for her first and long-awaited Grand Slam, the world number 2 will have to beat Halep for the title. Like Halep, this would be her third attempt to win a slam. In her head-to-head clash with Halep, Wozniacki leads 4-2 , winning the last three encounters.
