#IndiaInAustralia: Three key moments of the first ODI
Australia beat India by 34 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Batting first, Australia managed to post a total of 288/5. India had a disastrous start and were reeling at 4/3 before Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni tried to build the innings. India managed 254/9, despite Rohit's 133-run knock. Here are three key moments.
Australia do enough in an all-round show
Australia rode through half-centuries from Usman Khawaja (59), Shaun Marsh (54) and Peter Handscomb (73) to get to a challenging 288/5. India ended their innings at 254/9. Besides Rohit's ton, MS Dhoni amassed a 96-ball 51. Jhye Richardson picked 4/26.
Australia gain momentum in the final 10 overs
When Shaun Marsh got out, Australia were reeling at 186/4 from 37.3 overs. In the next 12.3 overs, the hosts powered their way by adding 102 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was plundered for runs in the final over. Credit to Handscomb for leading the show. He added 68 runs with Marcus Stoinis (47*). This final 10 overs produced 93 runs for Australia.
Richardson floors India with a special outing
Australia started off well with the ball and rocked India at 4/3. Richardson was on top gear and he set the tempo after dismissing Virat Kohli (3) and Ambati Rayudu (0). Richardson also came back in a pivotal time and dismissed Dinesh Karthik in the 40th over. He then got Ravindra Jadeja as well. 26 runs from 10 overs were like gold for Australia.
MSD not being able to use review was crucial
Rohit and MSD added 137 runs for the fourth wicket. The two players were going on well, before MSD was adjudged LBW. Replays showed the ball hadn't pitched on line. Dhoni couldn't use a review as Ambati Rayudu had earlier wasted one. That changed the complexion of the match at a crucial time. Australia gained control from there on and got the job done.
