Aaron Finch to lead Australia in T20Is against Pakistan
The Australian cricket team will be led by senior player Aaron Finch for the T20I series against Pakistan this month. Aussies, who will be playing a two-match Test series against Pakistan prior to that, will face the Asian side in a three-match T20I duel, starting October 24. Ben McDermott has been handed a call-up to the side. Here is more on the same.
In-form Finch is crucial for Australia's chances
Finch has been an extraordinary T20I player for the Aussies and recently smashed a stupendous knock of 172 against Zimbabwe. He led the Aussies to the final of the tri-nation T20I tourney, but couldn't help his side to cross the line against Pakistan. Finch will be crucial for Aussies and will be hoping to come strong against the best T20I side.
McDermott will be aiming to make this opportunity count
All eyes will be on debutant McDermott on whether he makes the cut in the starting XI. The youngster will be aiming to make the opportunity count if he gets a place in XI. He is a clean striker of the ball and his strike-rate of 145.78 in the BBL suggests he could be pivotal in getting quick runs.
Langer optimistic about vice-captains Marsh and Carey
Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey will be sharing the responsibilities of vice-captaincy and coach Justin Langer is optimistic about the duo. "Mitch has experience captaining Australia A and WA, and he's an extremely popular member of the team," said Langer. "Alex has great leadership qualities, and again we were really impressed with the way he presented to the interview panel," he added.
Players to watch out for in the Aussie side
Aussies have named a strong squad and Chris Lynn will be a vital cog up the order alongside D'Arcy Short. Both are capable of hitting the big shots and could cause Pakistan all sorts of trouble. In bowling, Mitchell Starc will be the cynosure of all eyes as he looks to have an impact. T20 regulars Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye will be crucial.
